Getting the correct TV to meet your needs if a difficult decision when considering the numerous different models available from multiple manufacturers. Our guide is designed to offer a brief overview of the considerations in choosing a new TV. Please contact us and we will be happy to help you choose the correct TV for your needs.
The majority of all new TV's have built in decoders which means you don't have to buy, store or connect separate set top boxes. In addition to this, using built in decoders allows you to use the TV's remote removing the need to have multiple controllers. There are 2 types of built in decoders available - freeview and freesat. If you already have a satellite dish the freesat option gives you all the freesat programmes whilst freeview TV's can be connected to a standard aerial to give you all the freeview channels.
Smart TV's have the ability to be connected to an internet router allowing easy connection to a range of micro-websites including the likes of BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Facebook. It is important to remember some micro-websites do require a subscription such as Netflix. If it's not possible to connect your TV directly to a router then wireless connections are possible with the use of a dongle.
Do you want your TV to be wall mounted or on as desk or stand. There are multiple options when it comes to getting a TV off the ground so please contact us to discuss your precise needs. We can also advise of the appropriate method of fixing a TV to the wall including plaster board walls.
Manufacture's advertising gives the impression that 3 main types of TV are available - Plasma, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Light Emitting Diodes (LED). In fact only 2 main types of TV exist - Plasma and LCD. LED terminology is misleading as LED's are simply the light source in a standard LCD unit.
Plasma screens are made up of rows of plasma cells, with one red, green and blue plasma cell per pixel. Depending on the current applied to a cell it is possible to produce a red, green or blue colour.
LCD screens comprise panels of tiny light valves and regulators. A coloured filter sits in front of each pixel which determines the colour generated. LCD by themselves do not produce any brightness which is the job of the LED's.
There are 7 main characteristics that can be used to compare Plasma and LCD TV's.
